Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT)
Mr. Tran Tuan Anh has been the Minister of Industry and Trade since 2016. Minister Anh served as the MOIT Vice Minister from 2010-2016. In March 2015, he was assigned Cum Vice Chairman of the Party Economic Commission, an act understood as more the Party’s involvement in the Government activities. (SBU) Prior to his time at MOIT, Minister Anh served as Vice Chairman of Can Tho Province (2008), Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco (2004-2008), and Deputy Director General and subsequently Director General of the General Economics Department with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2004). Earlier in his career, he worked for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1988-1994), the Ministry of Planning and Investment (1994-1999), and the Ministry of Industry (1999-2000). (SBU) Minister Anh graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam with a Bachelors in 1987, and completed his Ph.D. in International Economics in 2004. He was born in 1964 in Hanoi and is the son of the former President Tran Duc Luong. He had three children from his first marriage and one child with his current wife. He uses English frequently in meetings with foreign visitors.
