Masayuki Tanimoto is the Managing Executive Officer and Global Head of the Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group at Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Mr. Tanimoto's department covers power generation projects (e.g. renewable, gas to power, waste to power), and social infrastructure and connectivity projects (e.g. railroad and seaports). In addition, Mr. Tanimoto's responsibility also extends to relationship management for most of Asia and for certain countries in the West (e.g. the United States, the United Kingdom, and the EU). Mr. Tanimoto's distinguished career with JBIC began in 1990. Since then he has gained valuable experience in a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, energy and sovereign-based lending. Mr. Tanimoto's track record is testament to his wealth of experience and knowledge such as (i) the Natural Gas Liquefaction (LNG) export projects in Indonesia (Tangguh) and Russia (Yamal) and (ii) coordination of sovereign-based finance provided to middle and eastern European countries whose economies are in transition after the dissolution of Soviet Union. Furthermore, Mr. Tanimoto has was previously part of the corporate planning group, which is in charge of designing JBIC’s business model as a state-owned and policy based financial institution. In this role Mr Tanimoto was responsible for policy coordination with the Japanese government. Mr. Tanimoto was seconded to CSIS in Washington D.C. in 2013, as a Visiting Fellow. Also, he was Regional Executive Officer in London, Reginal Head for Europe, the Middle East and Africa in 2018-2019. Mr. Tanimoto graduated Tokyo University (B.A. in Economics) and Columbia University (M.A. in Economic, the Graduate School of Arts and Science).
