Jared Smith is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation. In this role, Jared leads a team with broad responsibilities including domestic and international aviation, and the facilitation of international cooperation and trade. He is also the Designated Federal Officer for the National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure. Prior to joining DOT, Jared served at the White House, where he was Special Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff for Presidential Personnel. Jared earlier served in the Department of State as Special Assistant to the Ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands, and in Washington D.C. in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, working on a host of policy issues including those involving international trade and the movement of people and goods. Jared earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine, a Master of Tourism Studies from the University of Tromsø in Norway, and an Executive MBA from Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland. He speaks fluent Norwegian and was most recently a resident of North Pole, Alaska.
