Kiribati High Commissioner

Mr. David A. Teaabo has been in the foreign service for nearly ten years as the Smaller Island States and Pacific Regionalism Coordinator. He started in his new role as the Kiribati High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji on 26 June 2018. Additional to this role, he is also the representative of the Government of Kiribati to the Pacific Islands Forum (PIFS), the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF). Prior to his engagement in the foreign service, Mr. Teaabo was a deputy executive director of the Kiribati Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (KANGO); an activity manager for the (then) AusAID agency based in Kiribati; the secretary general of the Kiribati Red Cross Society; and a congregational pastor for the (then) Kiribati Protestant Church. Mr. Teaabo received his post-graduate training in Project Management at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. He also received his diplomatic training from DiploFoundation’s post-graduate online courses, and he did his theological training at Tangintebu Theological College in Tarawa, Kiribati. Mr. Teaabo enjoys sports, movies and music. He is married to Ms. Ioana Taakau and are living with their three children in Suva, whilst his other three children are living in Brisbane, Australia.
