Chargé d'Affaires, of the Embassy of the United States to Brunei Darussalam
Ms. Emily M. Fleckner joined the U.S. Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan as Chargé d’Affaires in August 2020. Prior to her arrival, she enjoyed four years at the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City as the Economic Section Chief. In Washington, she served in the office of the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, with a focus on South and Central Asia issues, counterterrorism, and diplomatic security. She also covered European and East Asia issues on the staff of the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs. Emily worked to strengthen post-conflict reconciliation, economic development, and human rights in Sri Lanka and Maldives and has served overseas in Dubai, Mexico City, and Oslo. Before joining the Foreign Service, Emily earned a Master’s degree in Political Economy from the London School of Economics and was a Senior Editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit in New York City. She is joined in Brunei by her husband and two daughters.
